Delhi Daredevils CEO, Hemant Dua, was one of the spectators present on the field during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018 contest between Delhi and Punjab. He was accompanied by DD team manager, Sunil Valson, and TA Sekar.

Interestingly, Sekar had stepped down from his post in the franchise last year.

Delhi Daredevils is not the first franchise to conduct a pre-auction scouting as Mumbai Indians too was doing the same thing during Ranji Trophy.

The ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018 is an opportunity for the players to perform well and attract IPL franchises towards them. Earlier, the tournament was scheduled to start on January 21, but BCCI preponed the staging of the tournament as IPL auction is to be held on January 27 and 28.

Franchises have already started doing their homework and them visiting domestic games is a regular exercise.

Jasprit Bumrah is one of the players who was spotted during the domestic cricket by Mumbai Indians, and he went on to play for India in next two and a half years. In fact, Mumbai Indians also retained Bumrah in IPL retention ceremony 2018.

Talking of Delhi Daredevils, they retained Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Chris Morris. Rishabh was, in fact, was batting today at Feroz Shah Kotla and scored 38 runs off 25 balls.

The upcoming edition of Indian Premier League is all set to start in the first week of April. Delhi Daredevils franchise is likely to import a new captaincy material as Chris Morris may not be given the captaincy while Rishabh Pant, who led Delhi to the final of Ranji Trophy, is also not a captaincy material at that level.

The team had decided not to retain Zaheer Khan and Karun Nair – who led the team in last season – but the Delhi based franchise can always use Right to Match Card on them or their other former players. Since DD retained three players, they are allowed to use two RTM cards.
