Deodhar Trophy 2018-19: 1st Match, India A vs India B – Review; The first match of the Deodhar Trophy 2018-19 has got scintillating performances from the youngsters in the side. Despite Dinesh Karthik showing his class for India A, the exceptional spin bowling by Markande and Nadeem turned the tables for India B.

Hanuma Vihari, Manoj Tiwary knock the fifties:

Initially, it was Shreyas Iyer of India B who won the toss and asked Dinesh Karthik-led India A to roll their arms. Mohammed Siraj handed the initial breakthrough by rattling the stumps of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

However, Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer balanced the ship by knocking the ball sweetly. Just when things looked set for a big partnership, Krunal Pandya sent back Mayank Agarwal while Ashwin has drawn curtains on Iyer’s 41.

Despite the fall of wickets in quick succession, Hanuman Vihari and Manoj Tiwary carried their beautiful form to stitch 99-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Unfortunately, Tiwary walked back when Siraj struck a brilliant run-out.

It also opened the gates, as India A bowlers ripped through the tail-enders of the India B. The unbeaten 87* by Vihari pushed India B to 261 runs on the board.

Mayank Markande, Shahbaz Nadeem wreck havoc:

In reply to the chase, Prithvi Shaw and Karun Nair walked back on the successive deliveries to see scorecard 8/2. The other opener, Anmolpreet also failed to read Nadeem thus making it 24/3 on the board.

One would have expected it would be the best chance for Karthik and Krunal to impress the selectors. But, Pandya was outsmarted by Varun Aaron alongside Ankit Bawne (3).

However, Dinesh Karthik and Ravichandran Ashwin fought in the middle by adding a 123-run partnership for the 6th wicket. Then came, the spell from Mayank Markande and Nadeem. Markande bagged Ashwin’s wicket while Nadeem took a catch off his bowling when Dinesh Karthik was on 99.

Once the skipper walked back, it was a matter of few balls for India B to roll out India A. All in all; the first match has seen quite a few players shining and pressing their case for the selection in the Indian team.
