BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has lauded young RCB batsman, Devdutt Padikkal for his outstanding performance in his maiden IPL season this year. Sourav Ganguly has also hinted that he could well be in contention as the next opener of the India National Cricket Team, especially in the T20 format.
Devdutt Padikkal has had one of the greatest maiden seasons that any player has had in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The young prodigal batsman from Bangalore has amassed 473 runs from 15 IPL matches this season and in his first-ever season for RCB, he has become their top-scorer for this season.
Sourav Ganguly Hails Devdutt Padikkal
Talking about Padikkal’s success, BCCI chief and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is hopeful that the 20-year-old will be eager to replicate his success going forward and can be a force to reckon with in the Indian team.
Ganguly said on the final episode of India Today e-Inspiration, “He is a very good talent. Although T20 cricket is the first step…I saw him play an innings at Eden Gardens in the Ranji Trophy semi-final in Bengal vs Karnataka…Karnataka was a strong side and he stood tall,”
“He’s got talent and time when he plays fast bowling. Let him go through a couple of seasons because the second season will be a lot harder. India want openers so hopefully, he will get his game right at the top level,” Ganguly added.
Devdutt Padikkal Could Be RCB’s Top Priority Next Season
Devdutt Padikkal has proved his might and also proved the fact that the fans were no wrong with the hype that was created around him. RCB’s fans had been waiting for his arrival in the IPL since last year and this year, the team management gave him his maiden IPL cap in the first game itself as he was coming on the back of a blistering domestic form.
Padikkal did not disappoint for once and it wouldn’t be wrong to state that he is surely the top contender to win this year’s IPL Emerging Player Of The Year Award. Although RCB couldn’t lift the IPL title this year, Padikkal has made a strong mark for himself and he will surely be among RCB’s top priority list next season.
