Fans from the country have rallied behind MS Dhoni after ICC asked him to not wear the Army crest on wicketkeeping gloves. The former India skipper was receiving praise from all over after the cameras caught the logo of Para Special forces on his gloves during India’s World Cup-opener against South Africa on Wednesday.

The “Balidaan Badge” or the Army insignia was spotted on Dhoni’s gloves as television replays showed him stumping Phehlukwayo in the 40th over of the innings. The Balidaan is a distinct insignia of the special forces, which form part of the Parachute Regiment. Only Paramilitary Commandos are allowed to wear the Balidaan Badge.

Dhoni, who has been conferred an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment in 2011, had undergone training under the Para Brigade in 2015. The legendary captain had done five jumps from the parachute.

But while the entire nation is lauding Dhoni for his beautiful tribute to the forces, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is not fine with it. The governing body of the game has stated that Dhoni’s act is against the rules although they have not penalised the India star.

Claire Furlong, ICC general manager – strategic communications, said, “It is against the regulations and we have requested it to be removed.”

“For first breach no, just a request to remove,” added Furlong when asked whether Dhoni could face charges.

But ICC’s diktat has not gone down well among the fans. Thousands of fans took to Twitter to say how proud they were of both Dhoni and the Indian army. Not only that some even called for the boycott of the World Cup while some asked the ICC to concentrate on umpiring in the ongoing World Cup.
