Former Team India cricketer Farokh Engineer has been critical of the incumbent of the selectors and the Committee of Administrators (CoA) in recent times. He made severe claims against the selection panel while calling CoA as a waste of time. Diana Edulji, who was a part of the CoA, has finally hit back at the veteran during the Dilip Sardesai Lecture on December 4 (Wednesday).

Meanwhile, last month, Engineer took a dig at the former India women’s team captain saying that she had played little cricket. Farokh Engineer also remarked that the disbanded CoA, which Diana Edulji was a part of, was a waste of time. He also added that instead of wasting crores on CoA, it would have been better to use the money to develop grassroots cricket in the country.

Diana Edulji-Farokh Engineer at loggerheads

Seeking an opportunity, Edulji has hit back at the Engineer during the event where the former wicket-keeper was also present. Diana Edulji stressed that she had played 20-odd Test matches for India and that is no less cricket.

“I just heard Farukh saying Parsis don’t have a dirty bone in their body. I would like to know….you spoke a lot about the current selectors, and in that statement, you passed a snide remark about me. I would like to tell you that I played 30 Test matches too, so that is not little cricket I played. You said she [Edulji] has hardly played any cricket..,” Edulji said.

However, Farokh Engineer later clarified his statements addressing Diana Edulji. The former cricketer, who has time and again criticised BCCI and its functionaries stated that he has nothing personal against the former woman cricketer. Explaining further on his comments on the selectors, Engineer said that there is a reason behind those statements and he didn’t wish to take it back.

“There was nothing personal against you [Diana Edulji]. About the selectors, I’d spoken about them earlier, and there was a reason for that comment,” Engineer signed off.
