Different Revised Totals For India If Overs Are Reduced Against New Zealand Due To Rain
Updated - 10 Jul 2019, 01:35 PM
The ongoing first semifinal of World Cup 2019 between India and New Zealand is being marred by rain at the moment. There were chances of rain throughout the game but fortunately there was no interruption at the start. However, at the fag end of New Zealand’s innings, heavy rain stopped the match.
New Zealand were reeling at 211 for 5 in 46.1 overs when the on-field umpires asked the players to leave the field. New Zealand’s decision to bat first could not be justified by their batsmen. India started brilliantly with the ball. The pace duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah did not let the New Zealand top-order get off to a quick start.
Bumrah then dismissed Martin Guptill cheaply to put India firmly on top. The bowlers continued to pile pressure by not giving away easy runs. A 68-run stand between Henry Nicholls and Kane Williamson and a 65-run partnership between the latter and Ross Taylor steadied the ship for New Zealand. However, New Zealand batsmen failed to up the ante and lost wickets at crucial junctures.

At the time rain came, Taylor was at the crease on 67 while Tom Latham was giving him company. Rain is falling incessantly at the moment and there is every chance of DLS coming into play. There is a reserve day for the game but in case the rain stops, the game resume.
But if New Zealand do not bat again, India’s target in 46 overs will be 237. If the overs are reduced, Indian team will be given revised total.
Here are the revised totals:
Overs | Target |
46 | 237 |
40 | 223 |
35 | 209 |
30 | 192 |
25 | 172 |
20 | 148 |
In case, both the days are washed out, India will progress to the final because of finishing above New Zealand in group stage. India had finished at the top of the standings while New Zealand had finished at fourth.
