Sri Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal is doubtful for the second Test against England after sustaining an injury in the first Test match.
Dinesh Chandimal strained his groin during the first test in Galle which Sri Lanka lost by 211 runs inside four days on Friday. Suranga Lakmal led Sri Lanka during Chandimal’s absences in Galle.
“Chandimal’s injury is grade one, and it will take 10 to 14 days. It will be touch and go for the second test match.” Sri Lanka coach Chandika Hathurusingha said.
“The danger for us is that if he is not 100 percent fit, he may not play. We have to look at a replacement or standby player,” he added.
However, Sri Lanka’s team management will give Dinesh Chandimal every opportunity to heal before the second Test. The match will start on November 14 (Wednesday). Moreover, they have said that they would not take any risk putting Chandimal into the playing XI.
Kusal Perera and Lahiru Thirimanne were the other two standby batsmen when the test squad was named in late September. Roshen Silva could replace Dinesh Chandimal in the lineup, which also needs to replace retired spinner Rangana Herath.
The second Test will be played on November 19 (Wednesday) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele.
