Sri Lanka star Dinesh Chandimal is all set to try his hands at something even more adventurous as he is all set to join the Sri Lankan army. The former Sri Lanka captain will reportedly join the Army as a Commissioned Officer. As per media reports in Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Army Spokesman Major General Sumith Atapattu confirmed the news.

Maj. Gen. Atapattu said that Chandimal’s request had been accepted by the Defence Ministry. Dinesh Chandimal is expected to play for the Sri Lanka Army Cricket team. The Army Spokesman added that the former national captain would have to face an entrance exam in near future.

Prior to being sacked as captain, he averaged 40.93 in the 17 Tests he led in. Since taking the reins in the middle of 2017, he also hit overseas hundreds in the UAE (against Pakistan), India and the West Indies. He was then left out of Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad too. Sri Lanka did miss Chandimal in the tournament as they crashed out of the tournament at the group stage. He was recently recalled for the Test series against New Zealand at home.
