In the last one year of so, Dinesh Karthik has been mainly used as a floater in the batting lineup. The right-handed batsman has been predominantly seen by the team-management as a finisher and has thus been sent out to bat as per the need. However, Dinesh Karthik has said that the team-management is now clear about his batting position in the World Cup.

The right-handed batsman has disclosed that he has been tasked the role of batting at number seven. Karthik, who made his international debut way back in 2004, made his World Cup debut earlier this week during the game against Bangladesh. He replaced Kedar Jadhav in the playing eleven. Karthik came out at number seven after MS Dhoni who has struggled to score at a good rate.

“I think they’ve been very clear on what my role has been. When I go in at No 7, I need to pace myself accordingly if we bat second,” Karthik said on Friday.

“If we are batting first, then make sure we get to the par score that’s required. They’ve made it clear that this is where I’ll be batting, and my role is to make sure, whatever the situation is, assess it and do the best that I can,” he added.

Karthik, who has endured a rollercoaster of a career, said that is happy that he has finally got a chance to play at the World Cup. Karthik was a part of the squad for the 2007 edition in West Indies but did not play a single game. He could not make it to the squads of the 2011 and 2015 editions.

“I’ve been waiting to get this opportunity. So the motivation is there. The hunger is there. It’s about going there and executing. Yes, it didn’t exactly go according to plan against Bangladesh. But I’m sure that in the games to come, that I’ll try and put my best foot forward,” said Karthik.

India, meanwhile, have already sealed their place in the last four. Prior to that, the Men in Blue will take on Sri Lanka in their final league game.
