Well, by far, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the best wicketkeeper India has ever produced. His numbers in the register book speak about his greatness behind the stumps. Not only behind the wickets but also with his willow and captaincy, Dhoni has been one of the greatest cricketers the game has ever seen. Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik has learnt a lot from him.

Dinesh Karthik used to be India’s wicketkeeping option. However, after the emergence of MS Dhoni, none of the performers in domestic cricket got the chance to replace him. Dhoni has always been fit enough and also the player, who was never rested during his young days.

A big thing I learnt from MS Dhoni is to identify the weak bowler – Dinesh Karthik

Revealing the lessons learnt from Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik quoted that he learnt to identify the weak bowler in the opposition ranks. Explaining the scenario, he added that the opposition team would certainly have one bowler bowling at peak on the day and one is having a bad day simultaneously.

Attacking the bowler, who is having a good day isn’t a great thing to do while yielding runs from the bowler having a bad day would certainly help the team to get some runs. He also learnt to handle pressure while chasing the tallies from the Ranchi lad.

“See one of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt from MS is to identify bowlers. There will be bowlers who will be having a good day, so it is important to give them their due. At the same time, you have put pressure on other bowlers who are not having an entirely good outing. The ability of MS to absorb pressure and then come out triumphs is amazing, a trait I’ve tried to inculcate,” Dinesh Karthik said to Hindustan Times.

Some of his stumpings are stunning, to say the least –

Further, he went on to add saying that there is a lot to learn from MSD’s wicketkeeping skills. He termed that it would be hard to replicate the stumpings of MS Dhoni by any other player despite the tremendous work behind it.

“When it comes to keeping, well, isn’t he unbelievable? Some of the stumpings he pulls off are stunning, to say the least. I don’t think it is easily replicable, it is one of the kind. Look at his head position, his balance, all these technical things are so perfect, and there is so much to learn,” Karthik said.

Well, as Dinesh Karthik said, it is a tough job to match the wicketkeeping skills of former Indian skipper. Meanwhile, it is pleasing to hear that Karthik got a lot of lessons to learn from the stalwart of India.
