Out-of-favour India batsman Abhinav Mukund, on Sunday, expressed his disappointment over his efforts not being recognised. The left-handed batsman’s international career is completely off the track now. Abhinav Mukund, who made his Test debut way back in 2011, has played only seven Tests so far.

Six years after making his debut, he was recalled to the Test team in 2017 during the series against Australia but failed to justify his selection. After the failures in the Border-Gavaskar series, he was fortunately retained for the Sri Lanka series, but his poor performance in international cricket continued.

He got out for a duck in the warm-up game against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI before managing 12 in the first innings of the first Test. He was soon replaced in the team and is yet to get another recall. The Tamil Nadu ace is well behind in the pecking order and one cannot see him making a comeback to the national team any time soon.

Things went downhill in domestic arena too when he was removed as captain before the start of the 2018-19 season. But he bounced back strongly and scored 622 runs in the last season at an average of over 51. And he has continued to impress in domestic cricket since then. In the recently-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, he was the second highest run-scorer. However, it has not opened up the doors of the Indian team for him.

Perhaps this is why he expressed his disappointment after coming across a tweet which pointed out his recent performances for Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu-broadcaster RJ Balaji took to Twitter to point out just how good Abhinav Mukund has been. He posted the tweet after the southpaw was ignored for the Deodhar Trophy too, writing:

“Everytime someone who had played IPL hit a single 50/100,People want them in Indian team. @mukundabhinav is d only man to score 500+ runs thrice in Vijay Hazare trophy, second highest scorer ths season- 600 runs,Average- 52+,forget Indian side not even picked for Deodhar trophy.!”

The user also pointed out how the entire country has been rooting for Sanju Samson whose track record has not been as consistent as that of Mukund. The batsman came across the tweet and was quick to respond. Thanking Balaji, Mukund said that while not getting recognition is disappointing, he knows what to do, writing:

“Thank you brother for your show of support. Its quite disappointing to not get recognition sometimes but we put our head down and keep moving along.”
