Dream Come True, Says Rahul Chahar After Debut National Call-Up

India have announced their squad for the upcoming series against West Indies starting from August 3. The Men in Blues will play three T20Is followed by three ODIs and two Tests matches during their one month tour. Young leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, who earned his maiden national call-up in the T20Is, said it was a dream come true moment.

Virat Kohli will lead a team which have some fresh faces when they begin their campaign in Florida. The likes of Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey have returned to India team which sees Navdeep Saini, and young Rahul Chahar earn their maiden national call-up. Washington Sundar and Khaleel Ahmed also made it to the 15-member squad with Shikhar Dhawan recovering in time to be in the plane to West Indies.

The Mumbai Indians’ spinner will combine well with his brother Deepak Chahar in the T20I squad. Rahul Chahar received appreciation for his excellent work in the Indian Premier League and was a revelation for the Mumbai side during the title-winning campaign. He picked up 13 wickets from 13 matches this year at an impressive average of 23.69 with an economy rate of 6.55 to bench Mayank Markande in the playing XI.

Rahul Chahar has so far played 14 first-class matches and picked up 63 wickets at 26.44 including six five-wicket hauls while in 24 List-A games he has got 42 wickets at 24.52. He is averaging 23.33 in T20 cricket with 27 scalps from 16 matches. It will be a welcome opportunity for the 19-year-old to make a mark for himself in the absence of the first-choice leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Soon after chief selector, MSK Prasad announced his squad, Chahar took to Twitter to thank the fans and family for their constant support. He also said that it was a dream come true moment for the young cricketer.
