The cricketing world went in a state of shock after a leading daily published a report surrounding England all-rounder Ben Stokes’ personal life which dates back to almost three decades. The cricketer has found many allies ever since and recently England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chief Tom Harrison also backed Stokes on the same.

The daily’s report claims that his mother’s two children were killed by her ex in 1988, a few years before the Stokes’ birth. Ben Stokes criticised The Sun tabloid for intruding in anyone’s personal life. He said that his family has worked hard to deal with the private trauma and to keep the “deeply personal and traumatic events” private.

ECB head Harrison also backed Stokes on the same and seemed unimpressed with the tabloids reporting. Hailing Ben Stokes’ effort this summer, Tom Harrison said that he has secured his place in the game’s history. He also added that the entire cricketing fraternity and the country stand by his side.

“We, like the wider sporting world, are disgusted and appalled at the actions taken in revealing the tragic events from Ben’s past,” Harrison said in a statement.

“We are saddened that an intrusion of this magnitude was deemed necessary in order to sell newspapers or secure clicks. Ben’s exploits this summer have cemented his place in cricket’s history – we are sure the whole sport, and the country, stands behind him in support,” he added.

Speaking about the game, Ben Stokes has been in spectacular form in this summer for England. He helped his country lift the maiden World Cup at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium in London. Stokes also finished as the highest run-scorer for England in the recently concluded Ashes. The Test vice-captain amassed 441 runs in five Tests with claimed eight scalps to his name throughout the series.
