The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has taken yet another step in realizing their goal. The Board is setting up an IPL-style league. It has eventually finalized their date and has announced the name of the cities for it’s proposed, league. The T20 is slated to kick off in the year 2020.

The franchise-based T20 league just like the Indian Premier League (IP)). The teams from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Cardiff, and Southampton will take part in the competition.

Meanwhile, London will be having two different franchises, one for Lord’s and the other one as The Oval.

As per the reports in the English media, Ageas Bowl, Edgbaston, Headingley, Old Trafford, the Swalec Stadium and Trent Bridge has been named as the other venues respectively.

The proposed league in all likelihood will be featuring eight teams which will be playing a total of 36 games across a 38-day window. Each franchise will play four home matches.

The ECB has promised that the broadcast of the tournament will be live with reasonable free-to-air exposure.

Moreover, just like the IPL, top four teams in the league stage will qualify for the playoffs.

As per reports, the IPL themed tournament will be having a better revenue share for finishing at the top of the table. They will have the option of drafting as many as 15 players including three overseas recruits. The league will be having a player draft each year.

Meanwhile, the ECB has signed a five-year deal from 2020-2024 with national broadcaster BBC for live coverage of the league on its FTA Network. The other broadcaster for the tournament will be Sky Sports.
