England were in early trouble as Heather Knight opted to bat first at Hove. They were down to 23 for 2 in the fourth over with Ellyse Perry providing the first breakthrough. Knight and Tammy Beaumont pushed for an innings-turning stand, but that alliance only went as far as 38 runs, as Jess Jonassen dismissed the latter for 48 – the highest individual score of the line-up. Jonassen went on to finish with exceptional figures of 2 for 19 in four overs as the middle-order crumbled and collapsed with England managing to post only 121 runs.

The host tried to change the outcome with some cheap dismissals, but Meg Lanning continued to bully the English bowler. Ellyse Perry also provided timely support as Australia chased down the target with seven wickets to spare. Lanning made an unbeaten 43 while Perry scored 47 to clinch the series.

Meanwhile, during his knock, Perry brought her 1000 T20Is runs with a boundary to became the first cricketer to achieve the landmark of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in the shorter format of the game. Perry claimed her 100th wicket by dismissing England’s Nat Sciver in the World T20 final in November last year. Former Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi (1416 runs and 98 wickets) currently stands closest to achieving the feat.

Ellyse Perry, while speaking at the end of the game, said that she wasn’t aware of the achievement. She also cited that she has played enough matches to reach this landmark. Perry also noted that it was a fantastic achievement to reach.

“I guess it’s lovely, but I wasn’t aware of it. I actually think in T20 cricket at an international level, we probably play it as much as the men, so I have played a pretty big volume of games now – over 100,” Perry said to ESPNCricinfo. “So I suppose when you’ve played 100 games you might get close to it. That’s probably the only reason I’m there – because I’ve played a lot of games,” she concluded.
