Emotional Virender Sehwag Recalls Arun Jaitley's Contribution In His Career

Former India opener Virender Sehwag paid a glowing tribute to Arun Jaitley, the former finance minister and the president of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). The Bharatiya Janta Party stalwart passed away on Saturday at AIIMS hospital in New Delhi.

He was 66 years old. He was rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences on August 9 after he complained of breathlessness and restlessness. Mr Jaitley was kept under observation at the Cardio-Neuro-Centre of the hospital, however, his condition kept on deteriorating. In January this year, he stepped down as finance minister in January due to ill health.

Tributes are pouring in from all corners for one of India’s most famous politicians. Virender Sehwag also joined the bandwagon. The legendary opener paid his tribute to Mr Jaitley before explaining the big role he played for Delhi cricketers while serving as DDCA president. Mr Jaitley headed DDCA for 13 years till 2013.

Virender Sehwag recalled how Jaitley’s role helped Delhi cricketers including himself to break into the Indian team as he tweeted:

“Pained at the passing away of #ArunJaitley ji. Apart from having served greatly in public life , he played a huge role in many players from Delhi getting an opportunity to represent India. There was a time when not many players from Delhi got a chance at the highest level ..cont”

“But under his leadership at the DDCA, many players including me got a chance to represent India. He listened to needs of the players & was a problem solver. Personally shared a very beautiful relationship with him. My thoughts & prayers are with his family & loved ones. Om Shanti,” added Virender Sehwag.

As of now, the situation has completely changed. There are a number of stars from Delhi in the Indian team. Starting from skipper Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Ishant Sharma, Rishabh Pant to newcomer Navdeep Saini, Team India has no dearth of Delhi players.
