England pace spearhead James Anderson has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second day of the ongoing fifth England vs India Test at The Oval.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) sanctioned Anderson for his indecent gesture. The incident happened in the 29th over of India’s innings when Anderson snatched his cap and jumper from umpire Kumar Dharmasena. He then went on to speak to the official in an aggressive manner following an unsuccessful LBW review against Virat Kohli.
Anderson had managed to setup Kohli with a delivery that nipped back in. The delivery had gone on to hit Kohli on his pads. Anderson, still trying to dismiss Kohli for the first time in this series, went up only to see the umpire turning down his appeal. However, the hosts went for a review only to get disappointed again.
A miffed Anderson then did not refrain from letting his emotions out. And he has now paid the price for the same.
In an official release, the ICC stated:
“Anderson was found to have breached Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an International Match”.”
Anderson also received one demerit point to his disciplinary record. It is Anderson’s first first offence since the introduction of the revised Code in September 2016.
The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Joel Wilson, third umpire Bruce Oxenford and fourth umpire Tim Robinson.
The England star admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft. As a result, there was no need of any formal hearing.
Meanwhile, India finished the day on 174 for 6 in reply to England’s 332.
