Mohammed Shami, on Tuesday (August 28), said that the family troubles in recent past was very stressful for him.

Shami’s career had taken a bizarre turn after his estranged wife Hasin Jahan made some startling revelations in March this year. Shami found himself at the mid of the storm after his wife levelled sensational allegations against him.

Hasin alleged her husband was having extra-marital affairs with several women. She even claimed the pacer was physically assaulting and threatening her over a period of almost two years.

The cricketer’s wife posted several screenshots on social media to back her claims. The pictures showed the chats Shami allegedly had with multiple women. In addition, Hasin filed a police complaint against Shami at the city police headquarters.

Hasin had mentioned Shami’s involvement in match-fixing too. As a result, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was compelled to withhold his central contract.

But, after a thorough investigation from BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACSU) head Neeraj Kumar, the committee gave a clean chit to the Bengal-based bowler.

She had also claimed that hid his real age and eventually prepared a fake birth certificate to play national and state-level cricket. Not surprisingly, all these episodes affected Shami. Just a month after the feud broke out, Shami fared poorly in the Indian Premier League. Playing for Delhi Daredevils, he could get only four games and managed three wickets while conceding over ten runs per over.

He also lost his place in the Test squad for the game against Afghanistan after failing the yo yo test.

But things have become better now. Shami has done well in the ongoing series against England. So far, he has picked up 8 wickets in three games. But speaking ahead of the fourth Test, he insisted that the family matters did affect him.

“The last eight months have been tough for me with the family matter. It doesn’t matter what happened or didn’t, the period was very stressful for me. I was disturbed about it for some time,” he told reporters.

He further said that the motivation to represent the nation helped him focus on the game.

“At some point, I had to decide that representing the country came first. So I practised with that in mind. The place where I felt disturbed, I just got out of there. Somewhere I felt that if the country needed me and if I stopped, it would be a loss for my country. I was struggling with that issue, but being here matters more to me. I left that issue behind and went as far away from it as I could. I thought about the country,” he said.
