The England and Wales Cricket Board announced their England Lions squads for the upcoming tour to India. Once again, they have made quite a few surprise inclusions in order to stress the fact that the performances in the domestic circuit are the primary preference. Interestingly, as many as Three players have received call-ups for the second string side while Ben Duckett makes a comeback.

Lancashire bowler Tom Bailey is one of three players to secure the first call into the England Lions squad. Bailey joins Nottinghamshire pair Zak Chappell and Matthew Carter in securing a place in the squad to tour India in January and February. Bailey finished as the leading wicket-taker in Division One of the 2018 Championship.

It is expected that the best performers in the tour will be given the opportunity to represent the National team when Windies tours England in February. The respective board wants to give their regular players a good rest ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019, which certainly opens a chance for the youngsters to make a cut.

The Lions are due to play five one-day games against India. Interestingly, all the matches are to be played in Thiruvananthapuram between January 23-31. It will be followed by two unofficial Tests in Wayanad, starting on February 7 and 13.
