Following the injury of Rory Burns, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to ban football as warm-ups ahead of the start of the cricket matches. The decision was made as a precautionary measure after Burns suffered a football-related injury ahead of the second Test match against South Africa in Cape Town.

Ashley Giles, the director of England’s men’s teams, announced the news to the reporters on Friday. Ashley Giles, alongside Chris Silverwood, the England coach, has decided to ban the activity as a precautionary measure. However, the team can still play football on non-cricketing days.

Rory Burns ruled out with Football Related Injury:

Burns suffered severe ligament damage to his ankle after landing awkwardly while playing football as a warm-up to training on Thursday. He was subsequently ruled out of the rest of the series in South Africa and will fly back to England on Friday night.

However, this wasn’t the first time, as Jonny Bairstow also suffered a similar football-related injury in Sri Lanka at the end of 2018 while, in the past, Joe Denly and James Anderson have also been hurt playing the game.

Meanwhile, England named Zak Crawley as his replacement for the second Test match, who scored just four runs in the first innings before being dismissed by Vernon Philander. After the initial wicket, Joe Denly and Dominic Sibley stitched 55 runs for the second wicket before Sibley walked back for his 34 runs.

At the time of lunch on Day 1, Joe Root and Joe Denly are fighting in the middle for England. Apart from Zak Crawley, England made a couple more changes by bringing in Dominic Bess for Jofra Archer and Ollie Pope for Jonny Bairstow.

Even South Africa has made a change to their winning combination, as Aiden Markram was ruled out of the series. The young Peter Malan makes his debut in his home ground. South Africa are leading the series with 1-0.
