Craig Overton, the right-arm pacer, has been called in the England camp for the five-match One-day International series against New Zealand as a replacement for premium bowler Liam Plunkett, who is nursing a hamstring.

The 32-year-old Plunkett was ruled out of the series after he suffered a hamstring injury during the ongoing Trans-Tasman Tri-series.

Overton made his Test debut during the Magellan Ashes 2017-18. He suffered a broken rib during the third Test but continued to the bowl, after taking painkillers.

The 23-year-old promising pacer Overton did not take part in the last two Test matches due to a fractured rib. He is expected to make his ODI debut during the impending series.

Overton will have a long stay in New Zealand as he is already part of the Test squad for the series that will be played after the ODIs.

The ODI series between England and New Zealand starts on February 25 in Hamilton. Overton will join the squad soon, before the start of the series.

The second and the third ODI will be played on February 28 (Mount Maunganui) and March 3 (Wellington). However, the last two ODIs will be played on March 7 (Dunedin) and 10 (Christchurch).

Post the completion of the ODI series, a two-match Test series will be played. The first Test will be played in Auckland, starting on March 22.

The last game of the tour will be played in Christchurch, from March 30 to April 3. The Test match will be played with a pink ball.

Before the Test series, England will play two two-day practice games.

Meanwhile, England have a few days off as they did not qualify for the final of the T20I tri-series. They though won the last league stage game but were lagging in terms of Net Run-Rate. Three Lions had to keep Kiwis under 175 in the final game but failed to do so.

The moment New Zealand crossed the 175 run-mark, they booked a berth in the final. Moreover, the final tie will be played on February 21 between Australia and New Zealand.

The New Zealand series will be the last leg for England of their long stay outside their home. English players flew to Australia in October, before the Ashes series and have been in that part of the world since then.
