England, on Saturday, missed the chance to wrap up 2019 on a great note by winning the Rugby World Cup. The summer was great for the country as England won their first-ever World Cup before drawing the Ashes. The onus was on Rugby team to finish the year on a historic note. The way England knocked out favourites New Zealand in the semifinal, it looked like they would make light work of South Africa too in the final.

However, South Africa proved almost everyone wrong by putting up a breathtaking show in Japan. England didn’t get a toe in this game from minute one as South Africa thoroughly dominated the game. South Africa outclassed England 32-12 to lift the Rugby World Cup. And as England were struggling against South Africa, the England fans took to Twitter to hilariously call for the inclusion of Ben Stokes in the team.

The England cricket star was the team’s crisis man during the historic summer. Stokes had set the tournament on fire with his breathtaking catch to dismiss Andile Phehlukwayo in the opener against South Africa after a match-defining innings of 89 earlier in the day. He continued the same form in the rest of the tournament too.

Stokes stood tall during the tough times for England, scoring 82* and 89 after top-order failures against Sri Lanka and Australia. His finest knock came in the final as he put up match-defining performance, first in regulation time, and then in the Super Over. He scored 84 in the final and then helped England score 15 in the super over to lift the trophy.

Stokes was equally impressive in the Ashes too. He played a breathtaking knock of 135* to fire England to a miraculous win in Headingley and keep the series alive. No surprises then that the England fans including former cricket captain Michael Vaughan were looking for Ben Stokes when the team was losing badly in the Rugby World Cup final.
