England opener Keaton Jennings has been on the downward slide in his career after a poor start to the five-match Test series against India, and Nasser Hussain wants Jennings to get an extra match.

The southpaw has scored just 94 runs in his last five innings which is not good signs as far as the home team is concerned. He is averaging a mere 23.16 in ten Tests played so far.

Ever since making a debut century against India in Mumbai, Keaton Jennings has been far from impressive and has a lot of technical issues to solve before the start of the 4th Test at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Despite Jennings’ struggles in the last few innings, former English skipper Nasser Hussain has asked the English team management to retain the southpaw for the Southampton Test, starting Thursday.

“Keaton is now getting out in exactly the same way as he did in the first stage of his career,” Hussain was quoted as saying by a Sky Sports column.

“Personally, I’d give Jennings another go at the Ageas Bowl; five Test matches ago he was good enough to come back in and, being ‘old-school’, I would rather give a player one game too many than one too few. If the selectors drop Jennings twice in as many years, he’ll find it very difficult to come back again.”

England vs India: James Vince recalled for 4th Test

Meanwhile, middle-order batsman James Vince has been recalled as a cover to injured Jonny Bairstow for the fourth Test against India. The stumper fractured his finger while keeping during the Trent Bridge Test against India.

However, Vince was dropped from the Test squad after the tour of New Zealand earlier in the year. His recall came as a surprise to quite a few experts.

“There’s no doubt he’s an eye-catching, fluent player who has done exactly what the selectors have asked of him of late – which is go back to county cricket and score runs. He has been very pleasing on the eye in his 13 Tests, too, where he has looked like an international cricketer.”

Moeen Ali is also part of the England squad

Meanwhile, all-rounder, Moeen Ali is also in the side to face India at Rose Bowl. However, he is unlikely to be part of the playing XI despite smashing a sensational double ton for Worcestershire in a County Championship match last week. He also bagged eight wickets in the game.

“Like Vince, Moeen has gone away and done everything asked of him. In England, Moeen Ali is a very, very good cricketer and has hardly ever let England done at home,” said Hussain. “He was in the last two squads that were picked, and I hope someone doesn’t come in and jump above him in the queue,” he further added.

Despite India winning the 3rd Test at Trent Bridge, England is still leading the series by a 2-1 margin.
