The former skipper of India, Sunil Gavaskar shared rich praises on the India middle-order batsman, Cheteshwar Pujara. He said apart from being on the verge of a big win at Trent Bridge, three main batsmen of India came back in form at the right time.

“There have been questions about Pujara’s place in this team. He was well-set, and the ball didn’t do much, maybe moved a little bit away. It has been a very good partnership. Pujara didn’t do a lot wrong. This game has got three of India’s batsmen back in form,” Gavaskar said on BBC Test Match Special.

Cheteshwar Pujara finally found his form back

Cheteshwar Pujara did not have a good outing for a long time now. To gain his form, he paid a visit to England to play county, but that didn’t help much either.

In the first Test match at Edgbaston, the Virat Kohli made an out of a box decision. Although knowing the worth of Cheteshwar Pujara, he decided to drop him for KL Rahul, the third opener. However, after facing a backlash, Pujara found his name on the playing XI in the second match.

In the Lord’s Test, Pujara ruined his figures further. So far as the first inning is concerned, Pujara had to sacrifice his wicket due to an error of judgment from the India captain. In the second innings, Broad castled his timber and helped England wrap up the Lord’s Test by an innings and 159 runs.

Now, in the Trent Bridge Test, Pujara scored 14 runs after becoming the victim of Chris Woakes. The right-hander received a suggestion of accelerating his score, and it did not go well with him. While trying to go for a pull-shot just before the lunch, he handed a simple catch to Adil Rashid who made no mistake. However, in the second outing, Pujara scored a gritty 72 before edging one to the slips.
