India had a ball at Nottingham yet again on Day 3 as they stormed themselves into a winning position and are all set to make the series 2-1. It was a great batting performance by the visitors which ensured India had almost batted England out of the match. If the home team does manage to get these runs it will be a world record. They have put themselves in a comfortable position and unless there is rain not many would stop India from making the series 2-1.

India started the day’s play on 124/2 and consolidated their position of strength. They continued their domination for the major part of Day 3 and slowly but steadily batted England out of the match. Captain Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara shared a brilliant partnership of over 100 runs. Both grinded hard for their runs but ensured not a single wicket fell in the opening session of the day. It was indeed a big achievement especially given the sort of performances India dished out in the last couple of Tests.

Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara the top scorers for India

Both the batsmen were solid in defence and scored just 24 runs in the 1st hour. They played a little bit freely in the next hour and ended with 70 runs in the 1st session. Kohli struck some wonderful shots and so did Pujara. Both reached well-deserved half-centuries and looked to carry on from there. Pujara was eventually dismissed by Ben Stokes for 72.

Kohli, on the other hand, continued his long vigil at the crease and went on to smash his 23rd Test century. Ajinkya Rahane, on the other hand, was pretty slow to get going. He took his own good time and was eventually dismissed by Adil Rashid on 29. Hardik Pandya struck some lusty blows towards the end and raced to a run a ball half-century which ensured the lead for India was beyond the 520 mark.

It was some good hitting by the all-rounder who took 5 wickets earlier in the match. Virat Kohli the English batters 9 overs to play. india bowed well but didn’t manage to pick a wicket in the 9 overs they bowled. England finished the day on 23/0 needing 498 more for an unlikely victory.
