Former English cricketer, Michael Vaughan stated that Jonny Bairstow is sulking as he is not donning the gloves in the fourth Test against India in Southampton.

Moreover, wicketkeeper-batsman Bairstow has a finger injury while keeping in the third Test match at Trent Bridge. Bairstow scored only six runs in the first innings and bowled out of the first ball in his second innings.

“I’m not sure where Jonny’s mentality is,” said Vaughan.

Furthermore, Bairstow was not in a form in the second innings. He was batting down the order with a broken middle finger on his left hand. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler, who was keeping at Ageas Bowl in Southampton. He scored 69 runs, and England ended the day on 280 for six with a lead of 233 runs. However, Bairstow made all of his Test hundreds as a keeper.

Vaughan said that if he is going to be a top-notch batsman, then we would have to bat up in the order.

“He’s just got to have a look in the mirror, ask himself a couple of questions and get his mentality back on track.” he added.

Former England cricketer-turned-commentator Geoffrey Boycott thinks that Jonny Bairstow is good at number seven and not good enough to bat up in the order.

Jos Buttler, who is a consistent batsman was recalled at the start of the summer. He has taken the responsibility of keeping after Bairstow got injured at Trent Bridge.

“We’ve played a lot of cricket together both with him wicketkeeping or me wicketkeeping – in one-dayers and Test matches – and it has not been a problem at all,” said Buttler, England’s regular one-day wicket-keeper.

“Jonny’s not fit to keep in this match, which is frustrating for him because he has been fantastic in the last few years for England. Whatever happens moving forward doesn’t affect me or Jonny,” he stated.

“For me, being back in the Test side is fantastic, so gloves on or not doesn’t matter,” he concluded.

England is leading the five-match Test series by 2-1 against India as Michael Vaughan has backed hosts.
