After successfully hosting West Indies in a three-match Test series in the bio-secure venues, England are now all set to host Ireland in a three-match ODI series. At a time when most of the countries are trying to sort out ways to resume cricket, England have shown the way forward.

The series will also kickstart the newly launched ODI Super League which will determine the participants for the 2023 Men’s World Cup in India. Both the teams are short on match practice although both of them have played a handful of warm-up games leading to the series.

The series will be England’s first ODI assignment since they won the World Cup last year. The hosts will be without the likes of Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer as the big names recently played against West Indies and are now gearing up for the Test series against Pakistan starting next week.

The absence of the regular names will provide England’s fringe players to make a push for a place in the XI. Despite missing the regular names, England are still the favourites to win the series but Ireland will be fancying their chances too.
