So, here it is. After weeks- no, months- of hiatus due to the coronavirus-enforced hiatus, international cricket will finally be back on our Tv screens when hosts England lock horns with perennial foes West Indies at the bio-secure Rose Bowl in Southampton in the first Test of the three-match Wisden Trophy on Wednesday [July 08].

And, not only English or the West Indies fans, cricket tragics from all over the world will have their eyes glued on their Tv sets when Jason Holder and Ben Stokes men lock horns this week as it will serve as an insight as to how cricket would look like in the post-Covid-19 world.

The last time these two sides squared off against each other, the West Indian pace-bowling attack routed the English, giving everyone a throwback of the good old days of West Indian dominance.

England would be desperate to regain the Wisden Trophy from the West Indies, whose primary aim, as Kemar Roach alluded in the build-up to the 1st Test as the visitors’ ‘number-one’ goal.

Both sides have a potent fast bowling attack but this series could very well hinge on the performance of their top-order. England will be missing the services of skipper Joe Root in the first Test, meaning their top-4 in Rory Burns, Dom Sibley, Zak Crawley Joe Denly boast of a total of just 39 Test caps.

West Indies too have problems of their own. As if missing the services of Darren Bravo and Shimron Hetmyer wasn’t enough, their most experienced batters in Kraig Brathwaite and Shai Hope haven’t had a particularly good time in Test cricket in the past 12 months.

Another mouth-watering prospect of this series is the tussle between the two leading all-rounders of the modern-era in Jason Holder (ranked #1) and Ben Stokes (ranked #2). But, will the usually fickle English weather allow all this to happen?
