As things stand, England has Jofra Archer and Sam Curran as options from the squad that was named for the first Test. Archer himself was sent away to “give him time to get absolutely ready and fit” as he continued his rehabilitation from a side strain suffered during the World Cup.

Really disappointing for Olly Stone –

Letting the news out, the Sports Director of Warwickshire Paul Farbrace revealed the young fast bowler, who is taking giant strides in the National team has suffered a lower-back injury, which would rule him out for at least a couple of weeks. They are extremely disappointed with the time of injury.

“It’s really disappointing for Olly that he’s been ruled out of action for such an important two weeks of cricket because of a recurrence of his back injury,” Paul Farbrace, Sport Director at Warwickshire CCC, said on the club’s website.

“At the moment there’s a bit of inflammation, but he will undergo a scan later this afternoon so that we know the full course of treatment that he can undertake with the club’s medical team and with the support of the ECB. In the meantime, he needs to rest up before he can get his body strong again and ready to deal with the demands of being a fast bowler.”

With James Anderson and Mark Wood being ruled out, Olly Stone would have got his maiden Ashes cap in his kitty. However, things didn’t work for the youngster, who missed a golden chance.

As far as the series scorecard is concerned, it is the Australian team, who is at first in the race after a spectacular victory at Edgbaston. Now, both the sides will travel to Lords for the second Ashes Test.
