Unlike India skipper Virat Kohli, England captain Eoin Morgan is in no mood to ask the England fans not to boo Steve Smith and David Warner. Kohli was being lauded all over the world for his brilliant gesture towards Smith when India and Australia met earlier this month. The India star asked his compatriots to stop booing Smith and instead clap for the former Australia captain.

Smith and Warner have been facing hostile receptions from the fans in the tournament for the ball-tampering scandal. And they are now looking set to face more heat when Australia play against England at the Lord’s on Tuesday. Eoin Morgan has already made it clear that he would not tell the English fans what to do and what not. The left-hander went on to say that the crowds don’t have to accept Smith and Warner just because their bans are finished.

With Morgan making things clear, Smith and Warner should prepare themselves for a hostile reception. The two were jeered throughout a warm-up match against the World Cup hosts in Southampton last month, with Smith even booed as he reached three figures.

“You don’t know how sports fans are going to react. I think they are entitled to have their own view,” Eoin Morgan said.

“Just because punishment was handed out and the two guys served their punishment, doesn’t mean they are going to be accepted back into the cricket community straightaway with open arms. It will take time,” added the England captain.

England, meanwhile, will be desperate to win the upcoming game against their arch-rivals. The Eoin Morgan-led side suffered a shocking 20-run loss to Sri Lanka in their last outing. A loss against Australia will put them in a tight spot of bother and can very well jeopardise their hopes of progressing ahead.
