Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fetched their former player and England captain Eoin Morgan for Rs. 5.25 crore from the IPL 2020 auction. It was set to be a delightful homecoming for Eoin Morgan who represented the franchise earlier from 2011 to 2013. But with the unceremonious pandemic taking its toll on the tournament, it remains to be seen, if the forthcoming edition gets underway in due course.

Eoin Morgan plied his trade for KKR from 2011 to 2013 before being bought by SunRisers Hyderabad in 2015-16. In an episode of KKR’s Knights Unplugged, Eoin Morgan, recalled his memories with the franchise.

2012 was a pretty chaotic season: Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan was a part of the revamped KKR side which did not bought the local star Sourav Ganguly in the 2011 auction. They had then named Gautam Gambhir as their new captain and bought a flurry of international talents including the likes of Eoin Morgan. In 2012, KKR registered their first triumph, and Morgan recalled memories of the season.

He believes it was a chaotic season. The 33-year-old recalled their triumph, the lap of honour, and the Eden Gardens erupting in anticipation of their maiden title. He was also happy to see the joy on the faces of people in Kolkata.

“2012 was a pretty chaotic season, and being in a squad where you win it (the IPL) for the first time, you see the reaction when we returned to the city (Kolkata). I literally returned for a couple of hours and then flew out but people aligned the streets. I remember Eden Gardens being full, all the pictures of the boys going around and doing lap of honour… Just to see the pure joy on peoples’ faces about how proud they were to support a team was amazing,” Eoin Morgan said.

Morgan has featured in 52 IPL matches. Although, he has not quite got ticking and averages just over 21, his experience would have been crucial for the Kolkata franchise and he could have passed quick tips to captain Dinesh Karthik.
