Just around a year, Tymal Mills was one of the hottest properties in T20 cricket. The left-arm pacer from England had the world at his feet after becoming an overnight sensation following the last year’s auction for the tenth season of the Indian Premier League.

He was snapped up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping amount of Rs 12 crore. It was a life-changing deal for the 25-year old who can only play the shortest form due to a congenital back condition.

However, things have only gone downhill since the mega-deal in the IPL. He turned out to be a big flop in the IPL where he could take only three wickets in four games and concede at almost nine runs per over.

He went unsold in this year’s IPL and also had a forgettable Big Bash League. The England pacer was dropped by Hobart Hurricanes for the semi-final and final of the tournament after conceding the most runs in the competition, leaking 389 at almost ten an over.

His international career is also not on the right track. His last England appearance came on February 1 last year, and he has been ignored once again for the ongoing tri-series against Australia and New Zealand.

However, England skipper Eoin Morgan has insisted the team has not forgotten about Mills and overlooked him in Australia for his good.

“He’s gone through a tough couple of months, which everybody can go through,” said Morgan ahead of England’s first T20I against Australia at the Bellerive Oval, on Wednesday (February 7).

“The way he comes back from the sort of form he’s in, or the luck that he’s running at the moment, will determine how he goes over the next few years,” he added.

The England captain further sheds some more light on why the bowler was not considered for the series.

“We certainly see him as a guy who can gain a huge amount of experience playing in tournaments around the world,” said Morgan. “Due to his fitness background, we probably wouldn’t consider him until a World Cup year – pulling him out of a Big Bash just for a tri-series. We feel like getting a long string of games together and having a set plan could be better than travelling more with us, maybe playing or not playing.

Morgan went on to say playing franchise cricket across the world is the best option for Mills at the moment.

“We feel him committing to one side, playing and doing his thing on the road is the best option at the moment. I haven’t spoken to him, but that was communicated to him through (national selector) Jimmy Whitaker quite a while ago, maybe in the summer.”
