The skipper of South African cricket team Faf du Plessis will start training from today after an injury lay off. Meanwhile, South Africa will play a four-match Test series against Australia starting March 1.

Du Plessis missed the most part of the ODI and T20I against India with a finger injury. Du Plessis suffered a fracture on his right index finger during the 1st ODI. Meanwhile, India defeated the host 5-1 in the ODI series and are currently 1-0 up in the T20 series.

Du Plessis available for the 1st Test:

Mohammed Moosajee, manager of South Africa admitted that du Plessis will begin training from today.

He will start batting tomorrow and we are hopeful he will come through that and be available to captain the team for the first test against Australia,” he said in a statement.

Also, two key players Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers are also on course to join the squad after recovering from injury. While de Villiers suffered a knee injury, de Kock was down with a wrist problem.

Meanwhile, Temba Bavuma will feature in a club game on Sunday to prove his fitness following a hand fracture.

Dale Steyn still in doubt:

However, speedster Dale Steyn still remains a doubt for the first game of the series. Further, Steyn is only two wickets shy of becoming South Africa’s highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. Steyn suffered a ligament damage in his foot during the first Test against India.

He is doing his running training and also increasing his bowling intensity,“ Moosajee said. “He will in all likelihood feature in the series against Australia, but the CSA medical team will want him to play some form of cricket before a test match,” he concluded.
