Team India went back after day two of the second Test against South Africa as the better side at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Indian bowlers bounced back after Virat Kohli dominated most of the second day’s play. The bowlers did a fair job with the new ball and Ajinkya Rahane feels there is still assistance in the wicket for the fast bowlers.

Rahane and Kohli added 178 runs for the second and looked flawless after a nervous one hour on the morning session day two. India crossed the 300-run mark as Rahane brought his 50 while Kohli went past his century before Rahane got out.

However, it didn’t deter Virat Kohli, who went on to bring his seventh double-century batting alongside Ravindra Jadeja. India declared at 601 for five after Jadeja (91) departed; thus, Kohli sacrificing his triple century remaining unbeaten at 254.

Speaking at the end of the game, Ajinkya Rahane stressed that it was 400-500 runs wickets and hailed the batters for putting out an excellent effort with the bat. While Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara dominated day one, Rahane along with Kohli and Jadeja dominated the second day.

“The way we batted (took us to a score in excess of 600). There was assistance for fast bowlers, Mayank batted well. It was important to play that one hour really well in the morning. We were thinking about 500+. The manner in which Virat and Jaddu batted, it looked so easy from the outside. I don’t think it’s a 600+ wicket, it’s a 450-500 runs wicket.,” Rahane said.

Furthermore, Ajinkya Rahane feels there is still something for the bowlers if they can hit the right areas. India’s vice-captain also believes the fast bowlers will get good assistance with the spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja dominating the game with the ball gripping.

“Pretty pleasant here, Vizag was really hot. Bowlers will really enjoy. If we can bowl in right areas, we’ll win by a good margin. Fast bowlers have good assistance if they bowl in the right areas. The ball is turning, Ashwin and Jadeja can bowl on any track,” he concluded.
