Five Big Bowlers Who Could Retire Post 2019 World Cup

It is a famous saying in Cricket that batsmen win you tournament whereas bowlers win you the tournament. The upcoming 2019 World Cup is going to take place in England and Wales, which is going to be the 12th edition of the tournament. Thus, the bowlers are going to play a key part in the upcoming ODI showpiece.

Meanwhile, there are bowlers who would be playing their last World Cup. They have been big servants for their respective country throughout their career and they might play their last World Cup.

We take a look at five bowlers for which the 2019 World Cup could be the swansong.

Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn has been a big servant for the South African cricket. Steyn had bowled a length ball in the previous edition of the 2015 World Cup which was dispatched for a six by Grant Elliot. Thus, Steyn would like to rectify his mistake of the last event.

Meanwhile, the gun fast bowler has bowled with fire in the recent past. He was out of the team for a long time but has made an impressive comeback into the team.

Dale Steyn has scalped 192 wickets in 121 ODI matches and he would like to prove his mettle in the upcoming 2019 World Cup before bidding adieu to the limited overs format.

Steyn has been a great red ball bowler and would like to end his career on a high in the 50-overs format.

Lasith Malinga

Lasith Malinga was fading away at the International level. However, the champion fast bowler has made an impressive come back into the team. Malinga will hold the key for the depleted Sri Lankan side as his experience will be vital.

The fiery fast bowler has the experience of playing two World Cup finals and he would like to bring his best to the table. Malinga has scalped 318 wickets in 218 ODI matches as he has bowled with an average of 28.75.

Sri Lanka will want Malinga to be at the top of his game in the big-ticket tournament. Malinga is generally accurate with his line and length and would like to come up roses. The 35-year old veteran will like to end his career on a high.

Mashrafe Mortaza

Mashrafe Mortaza has been the old horse for the Bangladesh side. Mortaza has bowled with great accuracy in his career and he would like to deliver the goods at the upcoming megaevent. Bangladesh skipper will aim to be at the top of his game and he is going to be instrumental in the Tiger’s success.

Mortaza has scalped 258 wickets in 212 One Dayers at an average of 31.38. Bangladesh had qualified for the Quarter Finals in the previous edition of the World Cup. Thus, Mortaza will aim to repeat the same performance of the team. Bangladesh has improved as a limited overs side and they would like to tick the right boxes in the 2019 World Cup.

Imran Tahir

The 39-year old Imran Tahir will play his last World Cup. Tahir has done a fine job for the Proteas in recent past and would like to give a solid performance in the World Cup. The leg-spinner has scalped 152 wickets in 92 matches and had impressed in the previous season of the coveted tournament.

South Africa has always had a potent pace battery and Tahir could be the X-factor for the Proteas. Tahir can put more revolutions on the ball and hence he can extract more spin from the surface.

Kemar Roach

Kemar Roach has been the leader of the pack for the Windies. However, the 30-year veteran bowler could be playing his last World Cup in England. Roach has been troubled with the injuries in the recent past and he would like to deliver the goods in the upcoming World Cup.

Meanwhile, Kemar Roach has scalped 114 wickets in 80 One Day Internationals. The fast bowler will like to make the most of his experience to hit the straps for the Windies.
