Five Potential Candidates For India's Next Bowling Coach

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited the applications for the new bowling coach of the Indian team. The tenure of Bharat Arun has come to a close and India will hunt for a new coach. Meanwhile, Bharat Arun did a splendid job as he was able to get the best out of his bowlers. In fact, the India bowling battery took massive strides under the tutelage of Bharat Arun.

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have bowled with great success in the recent past and they would aim to continue their good work going.

The BCCI has invited the applications for the new bowling coach and the last date to apply for the job is 30 July. We take a look at five potential candidates who can be India’s next bowling coach.

Here are the five potential coaches.

1. Zaheer Khan

Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan has been one of the best fast bowlers produced by India. The former southpaw batsman has also played the role of the coach in the Indian Premier League as he has provided his inputs to Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. Khan can be utilised by the BCCI and his vast experience is going to be vital for the side. In fact, it was reported that Zaheer Khan will take the role of bowling consultant when Ravi Shastri was appointed the head coach of the team. However, it wasn’t to be.

Zaheer Khan had played 200 One Day Internationals for the India National Cricket Team and scalped 282 wickets in his illustrious career.

2. Chaminda Vaas

Former fast bowler Chaminda Vaas had also coached the Sri Lankan team as a bowling coach. Vaas had done a great job for the Island nation and his experience can help the Indian team in taking big strides at the International level. The former southpaw pacer had the skills of moving the ball early on in the innings and he can help the Indian pacers extract more swing in the matches.

The left-arm seamer had scalped 400 wickets in the 322 One Day Internationals and he is regarded as one of the best fast bowlers of Sri Lanka.

3. Glenn McGrath

Australia’s veteran Glenn McGrath would be a great choice to be the next coach of the Indian team. McGrath is often seen at the MRF coaching institute in Chennai where he provides invaluable insights to the future generation of Indian bowlers. The fast bowler was always right on the money with his line and length. Thus, he breathed down the neck of the opposition batsmen with his accurate bowling.

Subsequently, McGrath can lead Indian bowlers on the right path and his vast experience will be a great bonus for the side. The former Australian great scalped 381 wickets in the 250 One Day Internationals.

4. Allan Donald

The White lightning can be a great coach for the Indian team. Allan Donald had brisk pace under his bag and he can guide the Indian bowlers to new heights. The former Proteas had also coached Pune Warriors India in the Indian Premier League. Furthermore, he has also coached the South African team. Thus, the former great has all the experience under his belt.

Donald who generated great speed in his career snared 272 wickets in the 164 ODI matches at an average of 21.79.

5. Jason Gillespie

The former Australian fast bowler had even applied for India’s head coach role in 2017. However, Gillespie could not get the coveted job. Dizzy has the experience of coaching and he can be a great addition to the support staff of the Indian team. Gillespie had also coached Papua New Guinea and helped them claim the T20I status. The former Australian pacer is currently the coach of Sussex in County Cricket and BCCI can rope in the former bowler as their bowling coach.

Jason Gillespie scalped 142 wickets in the 97 ODIs for Australia and took 259 wickets in 71 Test matches.
