Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar divides opinion like no other commentator. The majority, however, more often than not criticise Sanjay Manjrekar. The ex-cricketer-turned-commentator has developed a knack of coming up with controversial statement on air. He also frequently ends up making others angry with his tweets.

In the last few years, we have seen quite a number of notable sports personalities especially from cricket giving an earful to Manjrekar. He was recently slammed by none other than Indian allrounder Ravindra Jadeja. So, here we take a look at five instances when other sports persons slammed Manjrekar for his tweets.

5. Kieron Pollard

During the 2017 Indian Premier League, Kieron Pollard had slammed Sanjay Manjrekar on Twitter. Pollard was not at all happy with Manjrekar’s comment during Mumbai Indians’ win over Kolkata Knight Riders. Pollard had managed 17 runs from as many balls and Manjrekar had said that the Caribbean allrounder is not good to play higher up the order. A furious Pollard had then take to Twitter to blast Manjrekar.

“@sanjaymanjrekar u feel any positive can come out of your mouth bcuz u get pay to talk u can continue with your verbal diarrhea (sic),” Pollard tweeted

4. Michael Vaughan:

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan had given an earful to Sanjay Manjrekar after the latter commented on England’s team selection. It all happened after Manjrekar questioned England all-rounder Sam Curran’s batting position in the first Test against the West Indies in Bridgetown earlier this year.

Vaughan had then reminded Manjrekar of England’s triumph over India a few months ago, writing:

“Sanjay… I think you are forgetting this England team that are at it again beat India 4-1 & then beat Sri Lanka 3-0 away from home last year … #?”

3. Sourav Ganguly:

Even former India skipper Sourav Ganguly had to take a shot at Sanjay Manjrekar. Unlike the others, Ganguly did not clearly mention Manjrekar’s name in his tweet but the turn of events made it more or less clear. It started when Manjrekar took to Twitter to take a sly dig at Ganguly. Manjrekar took a shot at Sourav Ganguly not letting other commentators speak much in the commentary box, writing:

“Always happy when Sourav Ganguly is in commentary. You get to relax not just in between commentary stints but during it too.?”

But Manjrekar had clearly locked horns with the wrong person and Sourav Ganguly made him realise that. Ganguly, who guided India to the final of the 2003 World Cup, mercilessly trolled Manjrekar. Ganguly said that Manjrekar’s tweets are as meaningless as his batting, writing:

“His comments on Twitter is a bit like his batting meaningless and and lack of ideas .. may be just an attention seeker…in the negative way ?”

2. Sania Mirza:

Even tennis star Sania Mirza had a spat with Sanjay Manjrekar. And once again it was Manjrekar who started it all. The whole incident started when Sania Mirza posted a tweet, celebrating 80 weeks at the top of the WTA rankings. Like many, Manjrekar too congratulated her but then reminded Sania that her No 1 ranking was in the women’s doubles category.

Sania then hit back at Manjrekar by posting the follow tweet:

1. Ravindra Jadeja:

The latest cricketer to blast Sanjay Manjrekar is India allrounder Ravindra Jadeja. For the umpteenth time, Manjrekar started it again by giving a controversial comment on Jadeja.  The ex cricketer-turned commentator had controversially said that he is not too keen to see a “bits and pieces” player in the playing XI.

“I am not a big fan of bits and pieces players which Jadeja is at this point of his career in 50-over cricket. In Test matches, he is a pure bowler. But in 50-over cricket, I would rather have a batsman and a spinner,” Manjrekar was quoted as saying by IANS.

Miffed with Manjrekar’s comments, Ravindra Jadeja did not hold back and gave it back to him, writing:

“Still i have played twice the number of matches you have played and i m still playing. Learn to respect ppl who have achieved.i have heard enough of your verbal diarrhoea.@sanjaymanjrekar.”
