Chennai Super Kings, on Tuesday, finally returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 20-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was a much-needed victory for the MS Dhoni-led side as it has kept their slim hopes of making it to the playoffs alive.

The win was just the third one for CSK in eight games this season. Batting first for the first time in IPL 2020, CSK put up a challenging total of 167 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. Shane Watson top-scored with 42 while Ambati Rayudu scored 41 as the duo shared an 81-run stand.

MS Dhoni (21 off 13) and Ravindra Jadeja (25 off 10) then played fine cameos to ensure CSK put up a challenging total. For SRH, Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowlers. He conceded only 19 runs off his four overs while taking two wickets. Khaleel Ahmed and T Natarajan picked up two wickets each too.

In reply, SRH finished on 147 for 8. Barring Kane Williamson, no other player could play a substantial knock with the bat. The former SRH skipper scored a fighting 57 but lack of support from the other end meant his knock went in vain.

‘It’s going to be harder’

CSK’s campaign in the ongoing season is pretty much similar to the one they had in 2010 as far as the number of wins after eight games are concerned. In 2010 too, they had only won three games and had gone on to win their first-ever IPL title. CSK as well as their fans would be hoping that the ongoing season ends on a similar note too.

However, their former player Subramaniam Badrinath is not too optimistic about the team’s chances in IPL 2020. Responding to a fan’s query about how the team recovered in CSK, Badrinath, who had played in that season, stated that it would be tough for the Chennai-based franchise to replicate that season.

He pointed out two reasons for the same, tweeting:

“Yes , true there are 2 reasons it’s going to be harder in #IPL2020 than 2010
1) we played a major portion of our games in the 2nd phase in chepauk (fortress)
2) all of then #CSK players were in peak fitness and form (current internationals)
