MS Dhoni’s contribution to Indian cricket is immense. The former India skipper led the nation to glory in the 2007 T20 World Cup 2011 50-over World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Under him, India also moved to the top of the ICC Test rankings for the first time in addition to winning several other series and tournaments.

His contribution with the bat and gloves is equally incredible. MS Dhoni is one of the most decorated wicketkeeper-batsmen and captains in the history of the game. And former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim has highlighted another big contribution from the 39-year old for Indian cricket.

The former BCCI general manager opined that MS Dhoni had played a key role in kick-starting the IPL by bringing a different dimension to the shorter format of the game.

“Dhoni played an instrumental role in kick-starting the IPL because of the way he brought a different dimension to the shorter format of the game because of his aggressive side with the willow. Also with his calm exterior behind the stumps,” Saba Karim told AFP.

Well, it won’t be entirely wrong to state that India embraced the T20 format and started the IPL only after MS Dhoni led the nation to glory in the 2007 T20 World Cup against all the odds. Months after that historic triumph, the IPL was started and as of now, it is the most successful and richest franchise tournament in the world.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni will be looking to hit the ground running in the upcoming IPL which gets underway on September 19. Chennai Super Kings will take on defending champions Mumbai Indians on the opening night of the tournament in Abu Dhabi.
