Former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya Suffering with Severe Knee Injury

Former destructive Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya is currently suffering from a severe knee injury. He is now unable to walk without crutches. Jayasuriya had acquired a reputation for being the most destructive batsman of his period.

As reported, the 48-year-old southpaw will be traveling to Melbourne for treatment having suffered the injury for quite some time now. Notably, he resigned from Sri Lanka’s selection committee after Sri Lanka’s poor show in recent tours.

The entire procedure of treatment and recovery is expected to take up one month as Jayasuriya will remain under observation during this period.

Jayasuriya played 110 Test matches, and 445 ODIs, scoring 6,973 and 13,430 runs, respectively. He has also bagged 98 Test wickets and 323 ODI wickets during his illustrious career, where he won the 1996 World Cup with Sri Lanka.

The swashbuckling opener Jayasuriya also led the Sri Lankan team 1999 to  2003, succeeding Arjuna Ranatunga. The journey came to an end with Sri Lanka’s exit in the semi-finals of the 2003 World Cup, hosted by South Africa.

Jayasuriya also had a stint in the Indian Premier League. He played for Mumbai Indians alongside the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Shaun Pollock and also has a century to his name against the Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural edition of the tournament.
