Overseas players missing a part of the IPL tournament has become a trend from the last few seasons. Once again, it is going to be same for the upcoming edition of the tournament with International fixtures set to clash with IPL schedule. The absence of overseas players will hurt a few franchises badly, as they can make a massive difference for the respective franchises.

Rajasthan Royals will be the most affected team off all franchises with all the key players missing some part of the tournament. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will be the least affected side, as they will lose only one player, who also joins them from the third game of the tournament.

The happiest franchise of all for the upcoming tournament is Mumbai Indians. They have no concerns, as they will miss only one player, unlike others. Trent Boult will miss an initial couple of games for Mumbai, as he will be part of the limited-overs series against Australia, which will end on March 29th. However, he will join Mumbai for the third game and will be available for the complete tournament.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will miss quite a few players for the first game of the tournament. However, they will have a complete squad in attendance from the second game. They are lucky enough to not have a single game in the month of March, which will see the key Australian and New Zealand players missing only one game.

They will be without Kane Williamson, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, who will be busy with the limited-overs series. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the side.

6. Kings XI Punjab:

Kings XI Punjab was expected to rule the roost in IPL 2020 with the kind of lineup they had after the auction. But, unfortunately, they will miss the services of their key all-rounders in the name of Glenn Maxwell and James Neesham. While Neesham is expected to miss only one game, the participation of Glenn Maxwell is in jeopardy, as he hurt his Elbow.

5. Chennai Super Kings:

Much like other franchises, Chennai Super Kings also set to miss their key players for some part of the tournament. The absence of Mitchell Santner might not hurt the team with a lot of spinners available in the basket but the team will miss the services of Sam Curran, which is a worrying sign.

The English all-rounder will neither be available at the start nor will he be available for playoffs – if CSK qualify. Santner will be back in the side after a couple of games while Josh Hazlewood is also a doubtful starter.

4. Delhi Capitals:

Delhi will miss the services of Alex Carey for the opening game alongside Marcus Stoinis, who is expected to receive a call-up following a brilliant show in the domestic circuit, especially in BBL. Alongside the duo, the fast-bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes also set to miss the initial stages of the tournament due to Sri Lanka tour and will be unavailable for the playoffs if Delhi qualifies for playoffs.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders:

Knight Riders caught the attention of the world when they bought Pat Cummins with INR 15.50 Crores. However, he isn’t going to be available for the first game, owing to national duty. Cummins alongside Lockie Ferguson will be available after the first game of the franchise. Despite missing the first game, all the players will be available for the remainder of the tournament.

The curious case of Chris Green is still unresolved. He was banned from bowling in the BBL but IPL officials or KKR management are yet to announce the further statement. Green will miss initial part of the tournament.

2. Royal Challengers Bangalore:

Much like Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore are also lucky to miss only two players, who will join the team after the first game. The Australian skipper Aaron Finch and the fast bowler Kane Richardson will miss the first game of the season for RCB. Apart from the duo, all the other players are available for selection.

Rajasthan Royals were already hurt with the injury of Jofra Archer, who is almost certain to miss the entire tournament. Now, the unavailability of England players for the complete season is another major setback alongside Steve Smith’s absence for the first game of the season.

Steve Smith will join the team after the first game while Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes confirmed to miss the initial part of the tournament and will also miss the playoffs if Rajasthan qualifies.

They will only land in India after the end of the second Test against Sri Lanka – which finishes on March 31 – and will join the national squad after the league stage to prepare for West Indies Tests, which begin on June 4.
