After a long association with Shahrukh Khan’s Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir decided to walk away from the franchise for the upcoming editions of the IPL.

Since Delhi Daredevils decided to release the services of Gambhir, Kolkata Knight Riders decided to opt for his captaincy and aggressive instincts. Gambhir stole the headlines during the 2011 auctions of the IPL, fetching a bid of $2.4 million.

Kolkata went on to win the IPL titles of 2012 and 2014 under the spirited captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. The southpaw led his team from the front as he went on to receive the Orange Cap on several occasions.

Gambhir took his KKR captaincy to heart as he was out of the national team during this stint. As a result, he always had a statement to make in front of the selectors and his critics.

Apart from winning the IPL titles twice, he took his team to the Play-offs on innumerable occasions. Under Gambhir, KKR was always a force to reckon with as opposed to the previous editions.

Gambhir brought an aggressive culture into the franchise, be it at the auctions or on the field.

However, prior to the retentions of this year’s auction, Gambhir went up to the administrators of KKR and asked them to let him go. GG desired to seek a different challenge even though the Knight Riders were interested in retaining the left-hander.

Within the KKR camp, Gambhir forged a strong relationship with superfan Harshul Goenka. While departing he took to Twitter to express that he would miss Harshul the most.

” I will miss many parts of @KKRiders may be will get over with time but not the Superfan Harshul ‘Boss’ Goenka. Let’s see if I can convince Boss to convert into being a @DelhiDaredevils fan. While I do that u checkout his collage” tweeted Gautam Gambhir.
