Gautam Gambhir, who retired from international cricket this week, has dismissed reports of him joining politics by saying that it was nothing more than a rumour.

The 37-year-old Gambhir has represented India in 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is for India scoring more than 10000 runs across formats. He made his debut in 2003 and last played for India in a Test against England in Rajkot in 2016. He retires with nine Test centuries and 11 ODI centuries to his name.

Gautam Gambhir played a key role during India World Cup campaign in 2007 and 2011 respectively. He topped the batting chart with 75 and 97 runs respectively in the finals. The southpaw in a video statement admitted that the plan of retirement was on his mind since long. However, the poor performance in IPL 2018, when he returned to Delhi Daredevils, made him decide that his time was up.
Following his retirement, there have been rumours going rounds that the southpaw is likely to join the ruling party, BJP. However, speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Gambhir denied the claims.

It is all a rumour. I don’t know who started it,” Gambhir said.

When asked about the most challenging bowler that he has faced, the southpaw picked the all-time leading Test wicket-taker despite his impressive record against him.

It has to be Muttiah Muralitharan. What a bowler, he was a magician. I used to watch his hand very closely and would pick him 7-8 times out of 10. His biggest strength was control and consistency,” Gambhir said.

In conclusion, Gautam Gambhir stated that his heart wants India to win the ongoing four-match Test series against Australia.
