Well, the place for the wicketkeeper slot in the Indian National Cricket Team has become a major debate of late. The presence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the consistency of Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant is making things tough for the selectors. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir sheds light on the biggest selection headache.

MS Dhoni was in blistering form in Australia series, where he bagged man of the series award. He was also brilliant behind the wickets, affecting the stumpings and run outs at his best. Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik also proved that he belongs to that zone with a fine cameo in second ODI.

The flamboyant batsman quoted that Rishabh Pant has also been in a great nick by scoring runs on a regular basis. He showed his class in the Test series against Australia and pushing hard to find a place in the ODI squad.

However, Gambhir believes that there is no chance to leave MS Dhoni or Dinesh Karthik, who are delivering goods for the team. Further, Gautam believes that Rishabh Pant will get his opportunity in future.

“I don’t think so. They’ve got MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik. He can wait for his opportunity. Obviously, he has done well in Test cricket. He’s doing all the right things. But if you’ve got Dhoni, who got [the] Man-of-the-Series award, he deserves to be there now.

And it’s so close to the World Cup, you need someone like Dhoni. Karthik has been in decent form as well over the last four-five months. The good thing is, Rishabh is keeping them on their toes as well, which is always a good sign for Indian cricket, that youngsters are pushing the seniors,” Gambhir told ESPNcricinfo.

Well, as Gautam Gambhir said, it is pretty tough for Indian National Selectors to bring Rishabh Pant into the scheme of things. The only way Pant can push for a place is by scoring runs at middle-order and go in as a back-up for Ambati Rayudu.
