It is after a period of 10 seasons when Delhi have qualified for the final of the Ranji Trophy.  At the start of the season, there were no hopes of Delhi making it to this stage, despite having likes of Gambhir, Ishant Sharma and captain Pant himself but a young Delhi side stunned everyone by making it to the finals.

It last five seasons, the best of Delhi had come in 2014/15 season when the then Gautam Gambhir led side made it to the quarterfinals before losing out to Mumbai. The side boasted likes of veterans Virender Sehwag, Mithun Manhas and Rajat Bhatia then, who all switched their base the very next season. Sehwag, in fact, had retired from the game two years ago.

Talking of Vidarbha, it is the first time when they are playing the final of this first-class tournament. In fact, it was the first time they played the semifinal as well and shone in their maiden appearance at the big stage.

The main reason for the evolution of the team is Chandrakant Pandit, a professional coach, who joined the side before the start of the season. He, along with players, has turned the fortunes of the team and the Faiz Fazal led side will look for glory in their maiden final appearance.

Though both the teams were underdogs before the start of the season, Vidarbha will be going as favourites in the final due to the experience they possess in their side. They have professionals like Wasim Jaffer and Ganesh Satish and an experienced captain in the form of Faiz Fazal.

On the other hand, Delhi have just handful of experienced players in the form of Gambhir, Manan Sharma and few others who have started playing first-class cricket a few seasons back.

The match will start today (December 29) at Holkar stadium in Indore.
