Team India has been in sensational form across all formats. After smashing the Proteas by a 5-1 margin in the six-match One-day International series, they have become the No. 1 team in both Tests and ODI’s.

Virat Kohli-led team has been moving all around. The players have always preferred Indian cuisine even in the dressing room on a match day.

The 2014-15 tour of Australia showed how the players of Team India demanded their choice of food.

Speedster Ishant Sharma and Suresh Raina went out of the stadium during the Gabba Test, to buy food. They were unhappy about the food which was served by the match organizers.

The issue cropped up during the ongoing South African tour when a local caterer was removed and Indian restaurant- Geet Restaurant from Pretoria was put at the service.

The local caterer now serves food only to the South African players. At other venues too, it has been the case. The Men in Blue have always favored Indian food.

Moreover, the non-Indian restaurants.  haven’t been allowed to cater on India’s tour.

“The players were unhappy with the local caterer here. So, we were hired and they are enjoy and like it. We only cater to the dressing room and to the officials accompanying the Indian team,” said a manager of Geet restaurant. The hotel supplied food for matches even in Johannesburg.

A local caterer at a venue said that they never had issues with other visiting teams including Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He said that it’s only Indian teams who prefer food cooked like at home.

However, he must also be aware of the fact that this Indian team is not the Indian team of the earlier eras. They are a much fitter unit than what they were 10 years ago.

The level of fitness has been simply exceptional.

Another caterer said that they had given an option of supplying vegetarian food in the dressing room and some Indian cooked food.

However, they didn’t like it and he feels that it might be the aroma and taste of food in Indian restaurants which has made the visitors opt for such a restaurant.

“That is the only reason we can think of. Otherwise, none of the other teams have had issues,” he said.
