George Bailey To Join The National Selection Panel Alongside Trevor Hohns And Justin Langer

Of late, Australia’s men cricket team has gone through a handful of additions in their coaching staff. Recently, Andrew Mcdonald took over the role of the assistant coach for them. As per the latest news, George Bailey was in contention to join the selection panel and on Wednesday (November 27th), Cricket Australia confirmed his appointment.

The 37-year old will join the selection panel at the end of the Big Bash League which will conclude on February 8th, 2020. The Tasmanian would call it quits from his playing career with Tasmania and Hobart Hurricanes in February to focus on the role of selector full-time. It is understood that Bailey is set to work closely as the National team’s advisor with Ben Oliver, who is the EGM of the National team, Trevor Hohns – who heads the selection panel, and Justin Langer – the head coach of the Australian team.

Post his retirement from the playing days; he would join the selection panel in a full-time capacity. Ben Oliver conveyed his delightfulness and hailed his contribution to Australian cricket in all forms of the game. He believes that his extensive array of knowledge, especially with regards to T20 cricket will bode well ahead of the T20 World Cup down under next year. Oliver also hopes that he would work well with all the staff who is associated with Cricket Australia to serve them well.

George Bailey has his say on his upcoming job:

George Bailey revealed that he is honoured to have been given the role to contribute to Australian cricket as more than a player. The veteran stated that he is excited at the thought of joining Trevor and Justin and is confident of his vast experience to bring fruitful results. Bailey has represented Australia in 90 ODIs and 30 T20 internationals. Since his first-class debut in 2004, the veteran has been the mainstay of Tasmania Cricket team.

“I am passionate about the long-term success of the Australian cricket team and advancing the cause of Australian cricket in general. I have been fortunate enough to contribute as a player for quite a few years, and to now have the opportunity to continue in the role of Selector is a tremendous honour.” Bailey said.

“I’m confident I can add value to the selection process and that my experience will be complementary to that of Trevor and Justin. I am really excited to be joining them in the coming months,” he stated further.
