Three of Big Bash League’s (BBL) best power-hitters – Glenn Maxwell, D’Arcy Short and Chris Lynn have come up with an incredible gesture to help their compatriots fight the ongoing bushfire calamity. All the three players have declared they will donate $250 for every six they hit to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.

Chris Lynn was the one who announced the brilliant gesture first on Twitter. The Brisbane Heat skipper stated that for every six he hits for his side in the ongoing competition, he would donate $250.

“Hey Guys, for every six I hit in this years Big Bash League I will donate $250 towards the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal. It is special to see so many athletes from various sports getting in behind the real heroes who are fighting to save lives and properties around our country ?,” wrote Chris Lynn.

Hobart Hurricanes’ D’Arcy Short and Melbourne Stars’ Glenn Maxwell soon followed suit and announced the same.

“Love it Lynny!! I’ll match you on $250 per six I hit in this years BBL. Great cause which is helping so many people around the country who are doing it tough right now. ?,” wrote Glenn Maxwell.

“Alright I am gonna jump on board and match @lynny50 and @Gmaxi_32 with $250 for every six I hit in the big bash league aswell to donate Red Cross and help those that are doing it tough,” wrote Short.

In other gesture of support, the Australian players have also decided to do their bits. The players are auctioning off their signed shirts from the Boxing Day Test and have decided that all the proceeds to go to the Red cross to support those impacted by bushfires.

So far this BBL season, Lynn has hit 12 sixes – the most in the competition – while Maxwell has nine for the Melbourne Stars. It’s not just the batters getting in on the action, either – veteran Perth Scorchers spinner Fawad Ahmed also jumped on board, pledging $250 for every six – so far this season, he has hit two – and every wicket, of which he has already captured seven.

Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes have also thrown their support behind the initiative, pledging to match the donations made by Lynn and Short respectively. Cricket Australia has also announced the one-day international matches between Australia and New Zealand at the SCG on March 13 and 15 will involve fundraising for the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund.
