Glenn Maxwell Expects Early Return, Sets Sights On T20 World Cup 2020

The flamboyant Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who recently got engaged with his Indian girlfriend – Vini Raman, is looking to make an international return with eyes set firmly on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in home conditions. Regarding the same, he is looking to make things fall in place with a good show against New Zealand.

The star cricketer Maxwell, who underwent elbow surgery in mid-February was expected to be out for six to eight weeks, but his recovery could be fast-tracked and he has also started light batting drills according to cricket.com.au.

Maxwell is hopeful of making a return to action during Australia’s tour of New Zealand, where they will play three T20Is starting from March 24th.

Maxwell hasn’t played international cricket since taking a mental-health sabbatical in October 2019, although he did take part in the BBL to lead Melbourne Stars into the final.

Speaking of the same, Maxwell stated that he is eyeing to play as much T20 cricket as possible to make a strong return to the national side ahead of the ICC event.

He wants to push harder to see Australia on top of the ICC rankings chart as well.

“I’m still hoping for that New Zealand T20 series over there and if I can get up for that, I think that would be a great lead-in to the IPL and the rest of the year leading up to that World Cup hopefully,” Maxwell told cricket.com.au on Tuesday (March 10).

“I’m trying to give myself as many opportunities to play T20 cricket this year and get myself right for that T20 WC. We (Australia) moved our way up the rankings and into a position where teams should probably fear us on our home soil,” he added.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for Maxwell in the upcoming few days. He is currently in the recovery phase and looks to settle his place in the side for a grand event.
