Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has praised India’s veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma for his incredible uprise in international cricket in the latter stage of his career.

Having made his Test debut in Test cricket in the year 2007, Ishant has grown from strength to strength over the years. He is super quick with the ball and has the ability to swing it at a great pace. In 2011, he became the fifth-youngest player to take 100 Test wickets. Against South Africa in 2013, Ishant Sharma became the fifth quickest Indian to grab 100 ODI wickets.

But, Ishant has certainly made a name in international cricket in the latter stages of his career. His spell against England in 2014 is certainly one of the best spells any Indian bowler has delivered in the English conditions.

Being very skinny in the early portion of his career, Ishant has trained hard in recent years and has been focusing on muscle development which has helped him bowl quicker and accurately till date.

“Ishant has a lot of experience, the way he’s comeback in the last couple years, its been impressive. I thought his career might have been finished at international level, but he has reinvented himself and he is bowling well,” the former Australian pacer was quoted as saying by PTI.

India are currently taking on New Zealand in a two-match Test series away from home. The Kiwis won the first game by 10 wickets as India’s batting looked helpless in front of the Kiwi bowlers. India’s bowling was also under the radar as they gave a hefty lead of 183 runs to the BlackCaps.

However, McGrath believes that India’s bowling is certainly one of the best-attacking line-ups in world cricket and will surely show a better performance in the second game.

“I still have total faith in the Indian (bowling) lineup. They had a few injuries off late. Sharma is coming back and he did get five wickets. Bumrah had a couple of injuries and he is coming back. So, yeah, I think the Indian bowling attack is world-class and there is no doubt about that,” he said.

India will now take on New Zealand in the second game of the series beginning from Saturday at Christchurch. The Men in Blue can further be in trouble as opener Prithvi Shaw faced an injury scare in his left foot which could keep him away from the game.
